Selves & Not-self : The Buddhist Teaching on Anatta
A series of eight talks on anatta, or not-self, given at a ten-day retreat in Eguilles, near Aix-en-Provence, France. Also there are relevant selections from the Pali Canon at end of the book.
Au mois de mai de cette année, les membres du Refuge, un groupe bouddhiste installé à Eguilles, près d’Aix-en Provence, m’ont invité à conduire une retraite de dix jours que les thèmes de la méditation sur la respiration et de anatta, ou pas-soi.
La retraite m’a fourni l’occasion rare de rassembler toutes mes pensées à propos de anatta dans un cadre unique.
Le résultat en a été une série de huit enseignements du soir, dont les transcriptions remaniées constituent le corps de ce livre.
Je voudrais remercier les membres du Refuge qui ont rendu possible cette retraite, et en particulier Betty Picheloup, la fondatrice du groupe, et Claude Le Ninan, mon excellent et méticuleux interprète tout au long de mon séjour en Provence.
Une traduction en français de l’ensemble des enseignements est en cours de préparation.
In May of this year, members of Le Refuge, a Buddhist group located in Eguilles, near Aix-en-Provence, invited me to lead a ten-day retreat on the topics of breath meditation and anatta, or not-self.
The retreat provided me with the rare opportunity to gather my thoughts on the topic of not-self under one framework.
The result was a series of eight evening talks; edited transcripts of these talks form the body of this book.
I would like to thank the people of Le Refuge who made the retreat possible, and in particular Betty Picheloup, the founder of the group, and Claude LeNinan, my excellent and meticulous interpreter throughout my stay in Provence.
A French translation of the all the talks and question-and-answer sessions during the retreat is currently in preparation.
